Analyze the process and impact of the introduction of educational policies at home and abroad

Seminar Introduction

In this seminar, students will take up an educational topic that interests them and clarify what systems support it, what process it became policy, and what impact it has had on education since becoming policy. Everything related to education, such as subject education, school management, and special needs education, has a system that supports it. By clarifying how current policies were created, the issues that policies have will become apparent. Rather than simply accepting educational policies, by analyzing educational policies from multiple perspectives, students will be able to increase the resolution of their views of education.

Japanese language education, intercultural communication

Main research contents

The main themes we deal with are Japanese language education and intercultural communication, but each student can also find a topic they would like to pursue and proceed with their research autonomously and independently. In seminars, students will work individually and in groups to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills. In particular, they will gain the ability to read papers, understand their contents, and summarize them in their own words.

Seminar Introduction

In a word, this seminar is a place where "all kinds of people are there." As mentioned above, we start by finding a theme that "only you can tackle" by reflecting on your own experiences and learning, not just on things related to Japanese language education and intercultural communication. We have tackled a wide range of themes, not only Japanese language education, English education, and communication, but also LGBT, addiction, athletes, family, religion, and more. When finding a research theme, I think it is important for each person to be able to reflect carefully on why they want to pursue it and what good things will come from pursuing it. Once the theme is decided, each person will work on it in a somewhat fixed way, such as searching for previous research, summarizing, narrowing down the research topic, investigating, analyzing, and summarizing. We will respect the opinions and advice of people with different interests from us and learn collaboratively. We are looking for people who can work autonomously and independently.

Research on the learning environment in social education facilities such as community centers, residents' learning activities, and sustainable community development

Seminar Introduction

This seminar does not limit its educational field to school education, but also focuses on lifelong learning and social education activities outside of school education. It considers independent and autonomous learning activities related to people's community development, community issues, cultural activities, and the creation of such environments as "education." In order to deepen this understanding, the seminar activities do not only involve literature analysis, but also actual participation in activities at Hino City's Central Community Center and among local people, interview surveys, and study tours. The seminar members also aim to delve deeper into the subject through discussions with each other and with social education staff.

We explore what sport and the human body mean to us today.

Seminar Introduction

In sports, we often focus on good records and victories. But before that, why do people get so excited about and moved by sports? Furthermore, being good or bad at sports and liking or disliking sports are fundamentally different things, but in education, we tend to think that "I dislike something because I'm not good at it, and that's not a good thing." In today's society, where diverse people live, it is possible to think, "I'm not good at it, but I like it, and I think that's good too." In this way, philosophical research is about "thinking about ways of thinking." We question what is considered "common sense" in the world, investigate various ways of thinking, read books, discuss with our peers, and create our own ways of thinking (philosophy) with an eye to the next generation.

We study the role of social studies and civic education in an increasingly diverse society.

Seminar Introduction

Through comparison with Western civics and citizenship education, we will conduct research on the curriculum and classes required for Japanese school education and social studies education. Based on this, we aim to consider the qualities and abilities that teachers should have, as well as to cultivate the knowledge and skills necessary for practical social studies classes. Specifically, using the designated textbook, seminar students will proactively conduct question and answer sessions, discuss any concerns with all the seminar students, identify issues in school education and social studies education, and consider ways to address them.

Seminar Introduction

We live in an age where anyone can travel abroad and easily learn about foreign cultures and events through the Internet and television. And people with foreign connections have begun to live together in our local area. On the other hand, problems have arisen that the world must work together to face, such as global climate change and the spread of infectious diseases. Among these problems, there are both enjoyable aspects and aspects that require efforts to solve. We learn how to deal with these enjoyable aspects and challenges in education through literature research, discussions, workshops, fieldwork, and more. We also have fun learning together through interactions with Asian teaching students and guests from abroad.

Teaching methods for the intellectually disabled: Support based on understanding the social model of "disability"

Seminar Introduction

In order to embrace diversity and create a symbiotic society, it is necessary to provide support that meets the diverse needs of each individual, based on an understanding of the "social model" of disability. In this seminar, we will mainly consider how to understand and support children who have difficulties living or learning. We will also conduct research on the solution of inequalities and issues in modern society, not only in the field of education, but also in the fields of welfare and labor. We welcome students who want to understand the mechanisms of "disability" in interaction with the human and social environment, and who want to grow by supporting those who need support.

Consideration of the practice of deepening university students' views on subjects through creating an environment for appreciation in art and crafts
- The possibility of learning in collaboration with teachers in the field regarding the development of themes and the running of exhibitions -

Seminar Introduction

Since 2021, students who have been researching their own creative materials have been planning four "Graduation Projects and Learning Presentation Exhibitions" to present their work both inside and outside the school. As a preliminary investigation, with the cooperation of a local public elementary school, the students visited the exhibition on the day, exchanged information with the teachers in charge, and analyzed the subject matter. This allowed them to refine the concept of the exhibition and reconsider the specific display methods. By learning about the exhibition methods used by on-site teachers to encourage children to take an active appreciation attitude, and the ingenuity of initiatives such as child guides, the students have learned a new view of the subject: "Instruction in art and crafts is not just about instilling knowledge and skills, but about stimulating children's sensibilities and motivation to bring out their creativity."

Mathematical thinking, mathematical activities, teaching material research

Seminar Introduction

Students are engaged in activities to deepen their knowledge on topics of their interest, including research on teaching materials and teaching methods in arithmetic and mathematics education. They read literature and materials on arithmetic and mathematics education, and through presentations and Q&A sessions in discussions, they pursue important concepts and sometimes revise their own assumptions. They also deepen their considerations and gain further understanding by working on actual arithmetic and mathematics problems and thinking about specific student activities. Ultimately, through these efforts, students will gain an understanding of the current state of arithmetic and mathematics education and acquire the ability to deepen their own thoughts independently.

Understanding young children, play and learning, cooperation between certified nurseries, preschools and elementary schools

Seminar Introduction

It is said that childcare and early childhood education begin with understanding children. In this seminar, we will understand children and explore the meaning of childcare to build a foundation for life, and how play in early childhood leads to learning for children. Seminar students will make presentations based on knowledge gained from previous research and practical examples from fieldwork, and deepen their understanding through repeated discussions. In addition, with the aim of playing the role of inheritors of play, seminar students are also engaged in fieldwork where they visit nursery schools to convey traditional play. Our main goal is to understand the role that play in early childhood plays in nurturing the ability to live a strong life, and to support that play and learning.

We explore issues related to child development from the perspective of developmental psychology.

Seminar Introduction

From the perspective of lifelong developmental psychology, which holds that "we continue to change throughout our lives," students choose and explore topics of interest from the perspectives of both children and parents, such as physical and mental development, cooperation between preschools and elementary schools, and parenting support. In the seminar, third and fourth year students form groups to exchange opinions, and work hard across grade levels to advance their research, reading related literature and conducting surveys such as questionnaires and interviews. They then learn from each other through presentations on their research results and subsequent discussions. In this way, students deepen their understanding of the current state of early childhood education, childcare, and welfare, as well as the issues that need to be addressed, and acquire practical skills to support children and parents.

Childcare practice research/expressive education (music/physical/art)

Seminar Introduction

This is a practical seminar that tackles various themes related to early childhood education while incorporating practical childcare activities. In addition to the usual exercise format, students will explore their own themes and advance their research through practical research for childcare practice, as well as "practical research on play" such as physical play and musical play. In addition, students will learn a wide range of expressive activities such as musical expression, physical expression, and creative expression, and will also work in groups with students who share a common field of expression they wish to research. Through the process of discussion, production, practice, and presentation, students will acquire the practical childcare skills required of childcare workers, as well as the ability to collaborate with others to create works.
