On Wednesday, May 22, 2024, Rui Sakaguchi (3rd year, Emergency Medicine Course Department of Medical Technology) discovered a man curled up on the sidewalk and called 119. She checked the man's breathing and pulse, and continued to observe him until the ambulance arrived, contributing to saving a life.
The man was later taken to the hospital, where it was discovered he had heat stroke, and after treatment he survived. Regarding the situation at the time, Sakaguchi said, "I tried to respond to emergencies on the scene, as I learn about in my university emergency medical classes, so I asked the patient questions, checked his breathing and pulse, and called 119. I'm glad he was saved."
The next day, the Chikushino Fire Department chief, who has jurisdiction over the scene, called the university to thank them for the lifesaving. In addition, on Tuesday, June 25th, Faculty of Fukuoka Medical Technology Dean Futoshi Mihara sent a letter of appreciation and words of appreciation, saying, "Mr. Sakaguchi's lifesaving efforts are the result of the results of his university classes. As a student aiming to become a medical professional, please continue to live your student life without forgetting to be considerate of others."
