We aim to develp an "emergency medical specialist".
The number of ambulance attendances in pre-hospital rescue is increasing year by year, and many injured and sick people need emergency life-saving measures. Emergency medical technician have become indispensable in the modern medical field, and we will train emergency medical technician who will be able to be ready to work by acquiring specialized knowledge and skills to practice pre-hospital relief and calm judgment.
"What is an emergency medical technician?"
They are a "pre-hospital rescue specialist" who are active in emergency and disaster scenes. It is a qualification that can perform emergency life-saving measures such as securing an advanced airway and securing a venous route (intravenous drip) and drug administration for heartbeat recovery, which cannot be performed by paramedics, under the direction of a doctor. They need to have higher knowledge accurate judgment based on this, and advanced technical skills to ensure treatment.
"Practical test conducted"
During the first aid training, we will conduct various skill checks to confirm the effectiveness of the education. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation, measurement of vital signs (breathing, pulse, blood pressure), airway management, foreign body removal using instruments, hemostasis, limb immobilization, cervical spine immobilization, total spinal immobilization, transport methods (manual transport, stretcher transport), etc. for individuals. The team's activities range from practical skills to team cooperation skills, and ultimately the team's activities are evaluated through simulations of each case.
We offer a curriculum to acquire skills and knowledge in order to develop emergency medical technician who have practical and problem-solving abilities that can widely contribute to the issues required for medical care, health, welfare, etc. in the local community from the professional standpoint of emergency medical care. Not only that, we have a variety of curriculums that are linked to the local community.
Syllabus of the Department of Medical Technology Emergency Medical Technician Course
Biology
A variety of organisms live on the earth, from E. coli to humans, and their diversity is amazing. However, on the other hand, there is a commonality such as using ATP (adenosine triphosphate) for energy, using DNA for genes, and cells, which are the basic building blocks. By learning the peculiarities of the species "human", which is one of the organisms on the earth, and the commonalities with other organisms, we can biologically understand the diseases and behaviors of many humans, and in the quality of daily life. Students will be able to improve a certain QOL (quality of life). In addition, biology is the basis of specialized subjects in the higher grades, and we aim to make it easier to understand the contents.
Medical Communication Studies
Communication skills are required not only in the medical field but also in various situations in daily life. In this class, studente learn not only communication as a member of society as a manner, but also communication as a medical professional. Medical communication means the exchange of knowledge and information related to the medical and medical fields between medical workers, between medical workers and patients, and between patients. As medical care becomes more sophisticated and specialized, and "Team Medical Care" in which multiple professionals work systematically is regarded as important, information sharing and cooperation among professionals is necessary to put these into practice. Students learn the basic methodologies that are essential and flexible.
Basic medicine
The on-site activities (observation, judgment, treatment, transportation) performed by emergency medical technician are based on medical knowledge. As a emergency medical technician, the medical knowledge required for field activities will eventually be enormous, and it will be necessary to update the knowledge, but first of all, the basics related to the structure and function of the human body. Students learn knowledge in a lecture format. In addition, by comprehensively studying the mechanism, including the etiology and origin of the disease (cause of pathology), course and changes, and the necessity and effect of treatment for it, students deepen understanding other specialized basic subjects (anatomy, physiology, symptomatology, etc.) ).
First Aid Details
This class, which starts from the 1st year, not only deeply learns about paramedics, but also deeply learns about the pathological conditions and symptoms that should be performed for paramedics and their field activities based on the specialized knowledge of medicine. In addition to the progress of specialized subjects that doctors are mainly in charge of, studentsl systematically learn from trauma to on-site activities for various diseases, special situations, and cardiopulmonary arrest.
First aid training
In order to acquire the practical ability of advanced medical technology, it is necessary to acquire basic techniques in practical training and to acquire comprehensive judgment ability through simulation. In this class, based on the knowledge and skills gained so far, students learn not only the emergency life-saving treatment, which is the basic technique as a emergency medical technician, but also the attitude and attitude toward the injured and sick at the risk of life, by incorporating the "discipline training" conducted by the fire department. In addition, emergency medical technician are in charge of pre-hospital rescue are also required to have strong physical strength, so we aim to objectively evaluate and improve their physical abilities.
Since medical activities are always carried out in situations where there is a sense of tension that is life-threatening, calm judgment and prompt response are required. Therefore, students actively carry out simulation training in our daily learning to acquire the ability to respond in the field. After that, students conduct off-campus training from the second half of the 3rd year with the aim of improving practical skills.
In the practical training, students acquire basic judgment skills and comprehensive judgment ability and ability to respond in the emergency field through various hypothetical training. It is also programmed to establish knowledge by combining lectures and practical training.
Ambulance riding training
In this training, students acquire the skills necessary for actual firefighting and emergency activities by using the knowledge they have learned so far. By riding an ambulance to the emergency site and understanding the work of emergency medical technician in the fire department, students learn the actual conditions such as on-site observation and evaluation, treatment, and precautions during transportation. In addition, while watching the work of emergency medical technician up close, students cultivate the responsibility and awareness of emergency medical technician and reaffirm the importance of medical control in pre-hospital relief. The main training contents are ambulance activities, emergency field activities, stretcher accommodation and transportation, contact with medical institutions, handing over to doctors, conferences, etc.
First aid training IX (hospital training)
Through practical training in the hospital, students develop practical skills that can play an active role in pre-hospital rescue and learn the importance of medical control. Observing the actual intensive care unit required for the emergency room and critically ill emergency patients, students learn about the patient's recovery process, judge the importance and urgency at the emergency site, and understand the provision of information on the injured and sick as required by medical institutions. The main training contents are lifesaving treatment for patients with cardiopulmonary arrest, lifesaving treatment for pathological conditions other than cardiopulmonary arrest, work and communication of medical staff, communication with patients and their families.

We have introduced a GPA system as a grade evaluation system. By evaluating the learning outcomes with an objective numerical value called GPA, we clarify the grade evaluation, and it would be useful for the learning guidance of students. In addition, this system generally conforms to the grade evaluation system generally adopted by universities in Europe and the United States.

Study at the Faculty of Fukuoka Medical Technology is based on a credit system. In the credit system, a fixed number of credits is set for all subjects, and if student passes the exam or other method after the lesson and preparatory study (preparation, review, etc.) of that subject, the fixed number of credits is given.
There are five types of courses: lectures, exercises, experiments, practical training, and practical skills, which are completed in half a semester except for special courses. Each course is calculated according to the following criteria. Please refer to the course registration table for the number of credits for each subject. Naturally, preparatory studies (preparation, review, etc.) are also required. The syllabus explains the preparation and study requirements for each course, therefore please study in a systematic manner.
Unit
Credits are determined based on the study time. Taking into considereation of teaching methods and educational effects of the classes, one credit is 45 hours (15 hours for class, 15 hours for preparation, 15 hours for review).
