Enhancement of career education for students aiming for employment

入学前準備教育

Pre-admission preparatory education
We impose pre-admission tasks for those who have passed the comprehensive selection / school recommendation selection such as submitting reports on assigned readings and learning through e-learning English materials to encourage a smooth transition to university study.

Career guidance through practices
In the 1st year life design exercise, students are asked to envision what they want to become in the future firstly and orient themselves toward higher education or employment. We also incorporate lectures from the Career Support Center, which invites graduates to share their experiences. The basic exercises in the 2nd year are positioned as an extension of the life design exercises, and students acquire the skills required for career paths after graduation such as data collection and analysis, report writing, presentations. In addition, in collaboration with the Career Support Center, we also provide information on how to read job vacancies, commentary on Competency assessment, and interview practice.

校外研修

Off-campus training
As a joint event between Department of Human Cultures and Department of Contemporary Business, an off-campus training for 1st year students is held every May. In 2016, students attended a lunch and table manners class at a hotel and a manners seminar "" Heart "and" Shape " of Hospitality" to learn about manners and hospitality as a member of society. After that, they had a park experience at Tokyo Disneyland that directly experienced the practice of hospitality to understand the meaning and significance of working, and after the training, they aim to further deepen their learning by making a retrospective report. At the same time, this training is also an opportunity for students to interact with and promote friendship between each students and teachers. Among the events of Teikyo University Junior College, this event is particular interest to students and has been well received in student surveys every year.

* We do not currently conducting off-campus training due to covid-19 infections.

Interviews with all students
Teikyo University Junior College is characterized by a small-group education in which each class is organized with 20 students or less, and a homeroom teacher is assigned to each class. From June to July of the 1st year, teachers have an interview with all students for 10 to 15 minutes to discuss student's life after enrollment, class attendance, adjustment to university life, part-time job status, study hours, concerns, future prospects, and current goals. In the interview, teacher learn about the current situation of the students and give necessary advice. As a general rule, homeroom teachers are lifted in the 2nd year, so they are already aware of the trends of individual students, but they give appropriate instructions taking advantage of small-group education such as occasional meetings with students.

Class development and exam preparation for transferring

There are two ways to transfer to Teikyo University (4 years): taking a special recommendation or taking a basic academic ability test through paper test. Many students take the latter exam in consideration of transferring to other universities. Since many students take the exam in Japanese, "Document Expression" is set up as an elective subject for Japanese test preparation. In "Document expression", students are taught various know-how for answering questions in modern Japanese. For students taking essay test at other universities, teachers in charge of life design exercises and basic exercises provides correction guidance, and also consults on how to take an interview.
