Faculty of Law 's Pakui Seminar invited a guest speaker to give a lecture on disaster preparednessHachioji Campus

On Tuesday, November 4, 2025, Akira Parki's seminar at Teikyo University Faculty of Law Department of Political Science Associate Professor invited Mr. Hiroshi Tatsumoto of Ichiyoshi Business Service Corporation as a guest speaker to give a lecture on "Disaster Preparedness Food Now and in the Future". Parkai's seminar focuses on "local government" as its research theme, and is practically exploring solutions to local issues while learning about public services from various perspectives!

At this year's Seisha Festival, the Pakui Seminar set up Pakui Kitchen and Pakui Cafe, where students planned, cooked, and sold food prepared for disasters, using food that was close to expiry and provided by Variety Club, a food bank operating in Hachioji, Tokyo. This project, which focused on disaster prevention and food sustainability, attempted to rediscover disaster food as an everyday food that is linked to reducing food waste and contributing to local welfare, rather than limiting it to emergency food, and attracted the attention of many visitors.
This lecture Senior Assistant Professor Mr. Ryumoto, who is in charge of disaster preparedness food sales at Ichiyoshi Business Services Co., Ltd., a company that cooperated with the project. He spoke from both the institutional and corporate perspectives, covering market trends and the background to the development of disaster preparedness food, as well as the mandatory stockpiling requirements under the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Ordinance for Measures for Stranded Persons. He also discussed the current state of disaster preparedness food, the importance of food in evacuation shelter operations, and the collaborative support provided by businesses, local governments, and citizens in disaster preparedness. He also sampled actual preparedness food products sold by Ichiyoshi Business Services, deepening his understanding of the company's role as a "food infrastructure" that supports diverse populations, including its innovative approach to making food delicious even in times of disaster, its allergy-friendly approach, and its nutritional balance. Participating students shared their impressions, such as, "The preparedness food was delicious, and I could sense the company's efforts behind its development," "The perspective of considering disaster preparedness from the perspective of 'food' was refreshing, and I would like to connect this to government initiatives," and "I was impressed by the company's commitment to solving social issues." These comments reaffirmed the importance of considering how daily life and disaster preparedness can be integrated.

The Pakui seminar is planning to set up a stall again at next year's Seisha Festival, and is also aiming to compile the knowledge gained from this lecture and activity into research results and present them at a seminar exhibition at the university museum. The students will continue to take on the challenge of connecting "disaster prevention" and "urban development."
