"Mini Fossil Excavation Experience" held at Teikyo University Museum onHachioji Campus Campus

On Saturday, June 21, 2025, Teikyo University Museum held a "Mini Fossil Excavation Experience" as a free event related to the special exhibition "Bone Wonderland - Exploring the Mysteries of Bones."
On the day, many parents and children participated, and each person was given a handmade excavation kit from the museum, which they used to carve out with spatulas and skewers until a fossil was revealed. A 50 million year old shark tooth fossil was embedded in a plate made of special plaster material, and after a while, a glimpse of the fossil became visible. The children who participated were seen concentrating on their work as they continued to carve, and some even asked the museum assistants who were working as event staff what the fossils they had come across were like. The idea for making the excavation kit for this experience event came from the Tokai University School of Marine Science and Technology Museum, and the shark tooth fossil was provided by "KASEKIYA," a global fossil retailer with an office near the university's Hachioji Campus, which made it possible to create the kit.

This special exhibition commemorates the 10th anniversary of the opening of the museum, and brings together valuable materials owned by experts affiliated with the university who conduct research on the keyword "bone," and introduces and displays them from various angles, including the origin of bones and specimens of animal bones. The special exhibition will be held until Saturday, August 30, and related events such as lectures and experience classes are scheduled to be held from July to August. Please come and visit us.
