A special lecture on "Symbiosis between Humans and Animals" was given by a guest speaker from theHachioji Campus Churaumi Aquarium.

On Wednesday, June 4, 2025, Mr. Keiichi Ueda of the Okinawa Churaumi Foundation was invited to give a special lecture at Teikyo University Hachioji Campus in the omnibus course "Human-Animal Symbiosis" for which Rui Kano is the course director Teikyo University Institute of Medical Mycology Professor.
Mr. Ueda, who has been involved with the Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium for many years, is a leading expert on animal husbandry and management at the aquarium and is particularly known for his pioneering work on dolphin health management. Mr. Ueda also played a central role in the development of the artificial caudal fin, which has attracted worldwide attention, and his innovative approach, which combines prosthetic limb engineering and animal welfare, is highly regarded as greatly expanding the possibilities for coexistence with animals.

The lecture began with an introduction to the operations of the Churaumi Aquarium, and featured a passionate discussion about the importance and challenges of blood sampling and daily health management of captive animals, including dolphins, with vivid examples. 400 students attended the lecture, indicating the high level of interest in the lecture. During the lecture, the students listened to Mr. Ueda's enthusiastic speech and rich real-life experiences with excitement, and the classroom was full of energy and the lecture was a great success. This lecture is one of the educational achievements based on the partnership agreement between Teikyo University and Okinawa Churashima Foundation concluded at the end of 2024, and our university will continue to promote research and education aimed at realizing a better symbiotic relationship between humans and animals.
