On Tuesday, January 21, 2025, 26 students from Teikyo University (11 Department of Radiological Technology, 8 from the Emergency Medical Technician Course, and 7 Division of Radiological Sciences. This is the first year that students from our university have participated in the mass casualty training session hosted by Yokokura Hospital.
This training was a disaster medical training exercise simulating a train and vehicle collision accident, and was attended by members of Yokokura Hospital as well as members of the Yanagawa City Fire Department and the Miyama City Fire Department.
On the day, the students were divided into two roles: injured and first-line triage, with the injured performing a realistic performance that confused those around them, in line with the detailed settings, while the first-line triage students fully demonstrated the results of their daily training. At the end of the training, there was a summary at Yokokura Hospital, where the students were told things like, "The important thing is to communicate and share information," "Conflicting information causes confusion and the expert team cannot fully demonstrate its capabilities," "The role of chronology is very important in disaster medical care," "Preparation is important in disaster medical care," and "When a Nankai Trough earthquake occurs, all students will be active on the front lines of disaster medical care."
Students who participated in the volunteer work shared their impressions, such as, "It's hard to learn about the on-site and hospital response at the time of a disaster even at university, so it was a great learning experience to be able to see a realistic scene," and "I learned the importance of information sharing and the role of chronology in medical care during a disaster, which will be important when I work as a medical professional in the future." It was a very valuable experience for the students.
Fukuoka Campus will continue to actively engage in community cooperation, including collaboration with local medical services.
