On Wednesday, December 11, 2024, Teikyo University Faculty of Liberal Arts Department of History Senior Assistant Professor Watanabe Eiki taught Life Design Seminar II, in which he invited Mr. Hidenobu Benibai, a staff member of the Aizawa Health Sports Medical Science Center and a long-time member of the scientific staff of the Japanese national speed skating team, to give a lecture on careers based on his experiences. This lecture was aimed at first-year students and aimed to encourage them to think about their future careers from an early stage.
Mr. Benibai first encountered speed skating during his student days, and after graduating he worked for a company before serving as a speed skating training staff member at the National Institute of Sports Science and the Japan Skating Federation. He specializes in the science and information departments, and contributed strategically to the gold medal win for the women's speed skating team pursuit at the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics.
In this lecture, Benibai spoke from various perspectives, drawing on his own experiences, about turning points in his career and what is needed to reach them. Students commented, "The talk about accepting the values of others made an impression on me. I want to meet as many people as possible at university, expand my network, and be exposed to a variety of values," and "I realized that because you never know when a turning point in your life will come, it's important to have a variety of values and skills to be able to respond to it," giving them an opportunity to think deeply about their own future careers.
Our university will continue to carry out educational activities while focusing on supporting students' careers.
