Hachioji CampusA research group led by Associate Professor Yamada of the Center for Medical Mycology has discovered a new molecular target that inhibits the growth of tinea fungus.

June 14, 2024 Teikyo University Institute of Medical Mycology Associate Professor Tsuyoshi Yamada, in collaboration with Shinya Ohata, Musashino University Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences Department of Pharmaceautical Sciences Associate Professor and his department Senior Assistant Professor Masaki Ishii, Meiji Pharmaceutical University Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences Associate Professor and colleagues, has identified a molecule required for mycelial growth of Trichophyton rubrum, the causative fungus of athlete's foot, and found that its inhibitor inhibits the growth of Trichophyton rubrum in human nails. This research is expected to lead to the discovery of new therapeutic agents against Trichophyton fungi.
The research results were reported in the journal iScience published by Cell Press in the United States.
