On Monday, December 23, 2024, the Environment and Energy Symposium "Energy Security Towards Carbon Neutrality and Global Trends in Nuclear Energy Development" was held at Teikyo University's Kasumigaseki Campus. This symposium was co-hosted by our university and the Japan Atomic Industrial Forum (JAIF), and presented the current status and future of domestic and international energy security and nuclear power development during the decarbonization transition period based on the results of research and surveys conducted by researchers from our university and the association.
This was the sixth time the event was being held, and in the midst of the current climate crisis and the worsening energy crisis due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine and the growing tensions in the Middle East, the timely issue of energy security and global trends in nuclear development toward carbon neutrality was brought up and discussed with the participants. The day began with an opening address by our university's Chairman and President Yoshihito Okinaga, followed by four lectures. From our university, Guo Shizhi, Specially Appointed Professor Okinaga Research Institute, Tominaga Junichi, Part-time Senior Assistant Professor at the Tanuma Laboratory Advanced Comprehensive Research Organization, and from the Japan Atomic Industrial Forum (JAIF), Kita Tomohiko, Research Officer at the JAIF, and Takeda Seietsu, Technical Advisor at the JAIF, gave lectures using slides based on their research and survey themes, covering various aspects such as trends and issues in energy, clean electricity, and nuclear security in the decarbonized era, as well as efforts and future developments from the perspective of S+3E and other perspectives. Between each lecture, participants deepened their discussion of domestic and international trends and issues in energy and nuclear development through question-and-answer sessions, and at the end, JAIF Chairman Masui Hideo gave a closing address. Approximately 90 people from industry, academia, and government participated in this symposium, which ended in great success. We would like to thank everyone who participated. Our university will continue to actively disseminate research results to society in relation to important issues facing domestic and international society.
