The 2nd Okinaga Award Ceremony was held at Teikyo University Institute of Medical MycologyHachioji Campus

On Saturday, December 7, 2024, Teikyo University Institute of Medical Mycology held the 2nd Medical Mycology Research Center Okinaga Award ceremony at the Teikyo University Hachioji Campus. This award was established in 2023 to recognize researchers who have devoted themselves to their studies at the center and achieved outstanding results equivalent to a degree.

The recipient of this year's award, Mikachi Yamamoto School of Medicine Pediatrics Chair Teaching Associate ?The Center additional post Assistant Professor of the University, has achieved remarkable results in her research on the development and demonstration of a rapid detection method for Candida auris. Yamamoto Assistant Professor graduated from the College of Science at Purdue University, USA, before entering and School of Medicine graduating from the University. Graduate School D. for analytical research on Malassezia, the causative fungus of pathogenic dermatitis, and developed a rapid LAMP detection method for Candida auris, which was demonstrated at the CDC in the U.S., resulting in research results that attracted international attention.
At the award ceremony, Dr. Koichi Makimura, Deputy Director of the Center Head of Center Professor, explained the reasons for the selection, after which Dr. Yamamoto Assistant Professor gave a commemorative lecture. The award ceremony was followed by a party to commemorate the award, which concluded in a friendly atmosphere with a speech by the center's Head of Center Hiroko Okinaga and a toast by the center's honorary Professor Eisei Yamaguchi.
The Center will continue to support the training of young researchers who will contribute to the development of medical mycological research.
