On Tuesday, November 19, 2024, Teikyo University Faculty of Language Studies Department of Language Studies Professor invited Mr. Seiro Hadana and Ms. Hatsune Nakamine of the Organization for the Promotion of Hokudaito Island and Mr. Buto Teruya of the Board of Education of Hokudaito Village to give a lecture on the pioneering history of Hokudaito Island at the cross-disciplinary seminar conducted by Tomohiro Hara. The theme of this exercise is "Migration of People, Goods, and Technology.
Kitadaito Island was first developed by people who moved from Hachijo Island about 100 years ago, and in parallel with the cultivation of sugar cane, one of Japan's largest phosphate mines was developed on the island. In this lecture, the students learned about the history of the island and the industrial heritage related to phosphate mining, and learned a lot about the origins and charm of Kitadaito Island, which is a result of various movements.
Our university will continue to carry out educational activities while strengthening our ties with the local community.
