On Monday, November 25, 2024, as part of a social business training class taught by Associate Professor Department of Sociology Lee Young-sook of the Department of Faculty of Liberal Arts, Faculty of Letters, Teikyo University, an event called "Let's Connect Everyone Through Empathy" was held, using the karuta cards that we created.
The Social Business Training is a year-round course taken in addition to the Basic Social Business Training course offered in the first semester, and is a PBL (project-based learning) type class conducted with the cooperation of social enterprises active in the area surrounding our university's Hachioji Campus, with the aim of "organically connecting students' careers with their university studies" and "putting students to practice learning and contributing to the local community." In this project, staff and users of the Tama Kusamura-no-Kai NPO, which is based in the Tama area, and our university students used everyday topics as the subject matter of karuta and jointly created picture cards and reading cards, exhibited them at the museum, and also held a karuta tournament.
On the day of the event, students taking the social business training course, staff and users of Tama Kusamura-kai, and general participants were invited to play karuta in five groups. As the cards were read one after another, the students who made the cards shared stories about how they were made, creating a relaxed atmosphere. The top five students were awarded original glasses with designs on the karuta cards by Tama Kusamura-kai, and the participating students were able to interact with the staff and users of Tama Kusamura-kai. Teikyo University will continue to provide a place for Practical learning education as outlined in Educational Guidelines.
