On Saturday, November 16th and Sunday, November 17th, 2024, the Teikyo University Barbell Club participated in the 51st All-Japan Student Powerlifting Championships, Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Cup, held at Okayama University Second Gymnasium (Okayama City, Okayama Prefecture). Yusuke Shiozawa (4th year, Faculty of Medical Technology) won the men's 83 kg class, and Takeki Hosono (4th year, Faculty of Medical Technology) placed 8th in the men's 66 kg class. Powerlifting is a competition in which participants compete for the total lifting weight in three events: squat (SQ), bench press (BP), and deadlift (DL).
Shiozawa, who competed in the men's 83 kg class, recorded a total of 670 kg, with SQ 242.5 kg, BP 165 kg, and DL 262.5 kg, and won the championship for the second time in a row. In addition to winning, this year he has been practicing with the goal of breaking the student record, and as a result, he achieved his goal of breaking the All-Japan Student Record, which he was unable to break last year.
Hosono, who competed in the men's 66 kg class, recorded a total of 490 kg, including SQ 177.5 kg, BP 112.5 kg, and DL 200 kg, and placed 8th. Hosono competed in physique competitions until last year and has only just switched to powerlifting, but he has steadily trained and improved rapidly over the past year.
