Symposium held to celebrate the founding of the Neuroscience Alliance

A symposium to establish the Neuroscience Alliance was held on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at Fukutake Hall, University of Tokyo (Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo).
In order to promote comprehensive collaboration in education and research among the three institutions, Teikyo University, the University of Tokyo, and the RIKEN, each institution, along with the Teikyo University Advanced Comprehensive Research Organization for Neurointelligence (ACRO), the University of Tokyo International Research Center for Neurointelligence (WPI-IRCN), and the RIKEN Center for Brain Science (RIKEN CBS), have jointly launched the Alliance for Brain Science. As a first step in this collaboration, the three institutions co-hosted a symposium with the support of the Japan Golf Association.
The symposium was divided into two parts. In the first part, after greetings from each institution, including Executive Director Hiroko Okinaga, Makoto Asajima, Director of Advanced Comprehensive Research Organization, signed the Neuroscience Alliance Memorandum of Understanding. In addition, in a talk entitled "Taking on the Universe of the Athlete's Brain: A New Challenge in Cognitive Neuroscience - Toward Improving Athlete Performance", scientists from three research institutions who tackle the mysteries of the brain gave lectures on the workings of the brain and the mechanism behind the yips, using approaches from their respective fields of expertise. From the Advanced Comprehensive Research Organization Professor Kazuo Okanotani introduced his research on the subject of "Control of Bird Song and Auditory Feedback."
In the second part of the event, professional golfers Kaori Oe and Kazuya Nakajima gave a special talk on the subject of "Professional Golfers and the Yips." In addition, Sports Bureau Rugby Football Club Iwade gave a special lecture on the subject of "Approaching Diversifying Student Attitudes," based on his experience as head coach of the Teikyo University rugby team and leading the team to nine consecutive victories in the National University Rugby Championship.

This symposium was a great success, with applications far exceeding the capacity. We would like to express our deep gratitude to the researchers, athletes, and participants who took part, as well as the Japan Golf Association for their support. Taking this program as a first step, we will develop various projects in the future under a comprehensive collaborative system between Teikyo University, the University of Tokyo, and the RIKEN Institute.
