On Tuesday, October 22, 2024, Midori Goso, Associate Professor Department of Regional Economics Faculty of Economics Teikyo University, appeared at a press event as a selection committee member for the "Sustainable Farmstay Model Regional Creation Support Project."
"Nohaku" is a type of stay-based travel where people stay in farming, mountain or fishing villages and enjoy the rich local resources, and it is attracting attention as a new tourist destination for foreign visitors to Japan and for revitalizing the region. Associate Professor Goso has been researching rural tourism in Italy and other European countries, he has been advising on various aspects of the nature of nohaku in Japan, which led to his presentation at this event.
Associate Professor Goso offered a message of support, saying, "Farmstays are a common tourist option in Europe, and in some areas of Italy people stay for up to five nights in a row. I think farmstays have great potential for attracting foreign tourists visiting Japan and domestic travelers, so I encourage everyone in the selected areas to do their best."
Associate Professor Goso plans to continue his research on rural tourism by expanding the scope and topic to include climate change and the United States.
