From Wednesday, August 21st to Friday, August 23rd, 2024, 11 students from the geography course participated in an outdoor field trip in Suwa City, Nagano Prefecture as part of the geography field trip taught by Associate Professor Junpei Hirano of Faculty of Liberal Arts Department of History, Faculty of Letters, Teikyo University.
The purpose of this training is to understand the nature, culture, and history of the Suwa region through fieldwork. With the cooperation of Suwa City Hall, Suwa City Tourism Association, Shimo-Suwamachi Shukuba Kaido Museum, and Shinshu University Suwa Lakeside Research Station, this outdoor training provided an in-depth learning experience about the formation of the Suwa Basin's topography, the hydrological environment of Lake Suwa, and the current state of tourism in Suwa City. Participating students commented, "By listening to the stories of local people and researchers, I was able to understand the topography and lake environment of Suwa in a way that can only be learned on-site."
The students will use the fieldwork methods they learned this time to further their research.
