Special lecture by the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to Japan held atHachioji Campus

On Friday, July 12, 2024, Mr. Korkut Güngen, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Turkey to Japan, gave a special lecture at Teikyo University Hachioji Campus on "World Affairs (Middle East) I" taught by Mr. Kanryo Ito, Teikyo University Faculty of Economics Department of International Economy Senior Assistant Professor.
In his lecture titled "From Istanbul to Tokyo: 8,900 Kilometers," he explained that Turkey geographically and culturally straddles both Europe and Asia, that it has a rich history in Central Asia and Europe, that the cultural and human traffic has created a rich culinary culture in Turkish cuisine, and that it is currently the world's largest recipient of refugees from Syria and Ukraine. The lecture explained Turkey's relationship with the world, including the fact that it is currently the world's largest recipient of refugees, assisting refugees from Syria and Ukraine. In terms of relations with Japan, he mentioned that this year marks the 100th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 1924, the opening of the joint international university "Turkey-Japan University of Science and Technology" to promote cooperation in education, science, and technology, and the close relationship between the two countries in the field of archaeological research.
During the Q&A session, students asked a variety of questions such as "relations between Turkey and Germany," "tips on how to mediate between countries and people," "security in Turkey," and "women's freedom and rights in Islam," to which the Ambassador gave rich and substantial answers based on his extensive knowledge and experience.
Turkish students studying at Faculty of Science and Engineering Department of Biosciences also participated in the special lecture, making it a very valuable opportunity to deepen their understanding of the situation in Turkey.
