Itabashi CampusAssistant Professor Takikawa received the Hiroishi Award from the Japanese Society of Amblyopia and Strabismus

At the 80th General Meeting of the Japanese Society of Amblyopia and Strabismus, held at Act City Hamamatsu (Shizuoka Prefecture) on Friday, June 14th and Saturday, June 15th, 2024, Ryusei Takigawa, Assistant Professor in the Department Department of Orthoptics Faculty of Medical Technology Teikyo University, was awarded the Hiroishi Award from the Japanese Society of Amblyopia and Strabismus.
The Japanese Society for Amblyopia and Strabismus was founded in 1964 as the Japanese Amblyopia and Strabismus Study Group, and was renamed the Japanese Society for Amblyopia and Strabismus in 1978. Since then, it has aimed to advance clinical and basic research into disorders of vision and binocular vision function, and has been disseminating information based on medical evidence to society.

Assistant Professor Takigawa's award-winning paper evaluated the effects of anisometropic amblyopia, which has been successfully treated. Anisometropia is a condition in which the strength of the right and left eyes differs greatly, and when corrected with glasses, anisometropia occurs, where the size of what is seen by the right eye differs from the size of what is seen by the left eye. It was thought that aniseikonia always occurs when treating anisometropic amblyopia, and that it is not perceived due to brain adaptation, but Assistant Professor Takigawa's research has shown that adaptation of aniseikonia does not occur.
This research result was recognized and he was awarded the Hiroishi Award, an award for best paper from the Japanese Society of Amblyopia and Strabismus. We look forward to Assistant Professor Takikawa's continued success in the future.
