On Saturday, May 11, 2024, the Teikyo University baseball team won 3-2 against Tokai University in the third round of the Metropolitan University Spring Division 1 League held at Koshigaya Municipal Baseball Stadium (Koshigaya City, Saitama Prefecture), winning their fifth league championship in 14 seasons since the spring of 2017. This was also the first time in the history of the league that a team has won the championship immediately after being promoted from the second division.
The game continued with neither team giving in, and the score was tied at one point, until in the bottom of the ninth inning, catcher Tatsumi Ikeda (3rd year, Faculty of Medical Technology) prevented a runner from stealing base, and the stadium became silent. When pitcher Ryuto Sakae (4th year, Faculty of Medical Technology) struck out the last batter, the players gathered around the mound, and were greeted with thunderous applause and cheers from the stands.
Our university's baseball team will represent the Metropolitan University Baseball Association and will participate in the 73rd All-Japan University Baseball Championship, which will begin on Monday, June 10th, for the third time in seven years. Please come to the stadium to watch our students in action. For more details, please check the official website of the All-Japan University Baseball Association.
