A research project headed by Senior Assistant Professor Hirota atItabashi Campus has been selected for academic research promotion funding.

Masakazu Hirota, Senior Assistant Professor in the Department Department of Orthoptics Faculty of Medical Technology Teikyo University, is the principal investigator for the research project, ``Creation of a retina map that superimposes the function and structure of the retina,'' which will be awarded in 2024 by the Japan Private School Promotion and Mutual Aid Corporation. The project was selected for the Academic Research Promotion Fund.

The Academic Research Promotion Fund was established with the purpose of subsidizing expenses directly necessary for academic research at private universities, junior colleges, and technical colleges. The investment profits are distributed as academic research promotion funds to excellent academic research at private universities and other institutions. 14 out of 92 new applications for academic research promotion funding for fiscal year 2024 were selected.

This study applied a retinal scanning multilocal electroretinography device that accurately and easily evaluates retinal function to investigate the relationship between functional and structural changes in the peripheral retina due to progression of myopia, and to elucidate the mechanism of myopia progression.
