On Wednesday, February 14, 2024, the Teikyo University Ekiden (Road Relay) Club held an exchange class with 6th graders from Fuchu Municipal Yazaki Elementary School. Exchange classes are held every year as part of regional exchanges, and the purpose is to motivate the children of Yazaki Ekiden (Road Relay) Club.
The 6th graders at Yazaki Elementary School had an endurance running record event in three days, so their motivation for long-distance running was extremely high, and the event was exciting from beginning to end, with laps around the schoolyard and middle-distance running competitions between representative children and our faculty members. We were able to interact in a friendly atmosphere.
Additionally, as part of career education, we gave lectures on basic knowledge of the Hakone Ekiden and talks based on club members' actual experiences, such as the attitude towards achieving goals. Afterwards, the children asked many questions, such as ``What do you do to change your mood?'' ``What was the most fun thing you've ever done?'' ``How much sleep do you get?'' was responding.
Some of the members who participated this time were students aiming to become teachers, and it was a very valuable experience for our students, as they learned how to interact with children and gained experience speaking their ideas in front of people.
