In a celebration marking the three-decade-long academic collaboration between Teikyo University and Harvard University, an engaging luncheon seminar unfolded on November 1, 2023. The event, titled "Graduate School of Public Health Education and Human Resource Development - MPH and Career Formation are Necessary Now," delved into the indispensable realm of public health education and career development.
Highlighting the occasion was Hideki Hashimoto, a distinguished figure who not only traversed the academic corridors of Harvard University as an Okinaga Fellow but currently serves as Professor and head of the Department of Public Health at the University of Tokyo. Joined by Nanako Tamiya, former president of the Japanese Society of Public Health, the duo engaged in a discussion titled "Personal Memoirs Conversation about Learning in the MPH Program." The conversation touched upon the nuances of studying abroad, the significance of acquiring an MPH (Master of Public Health) degree, essential elements for crafting a successful career afterward, and insightful messages for aspiring young professionals. The discourse also ventured into a comparison of public health graduate education in Japan and the United States, offering a rare glimpse into the minds of leading Japanese public health experts.
Chaired by Yoshiharu Fukuda, Professor at the Teikyo Graduate School of Public Health (SPH), and facilitated by Mariko Inoue, Associate Professor at the same university, the seminar was a resounding success. The auditorium witnessed a full house, with attendees eager to gain insights from these eminent speakers, fostering a friendly atmosphere that allowed for the exchange of personal anecdotes and humorous accounts of studying abroad.
Beyond the seminar, the Teikyo University Group and Teikyo University SPH made their presence felt with informative booths during the conference period. Graduate school teams engaged with visitors, effectively communicating the distinctive features of the university's education and research. As the events commemorating the 30th anniversary unfold, Teikyo University remains committed to nurturing the collaborative bond established with Harvard University. Reflecting on a rich 30-year history, the institution is poised to further enhance international research and education, embodying a commitment to excellence in academia and public health.
