The Karatedo Club won three crowns at the Kanto University Karatedo Championships

On Monday, October 14, 2024, at the 67th Kanto University Karate Championships held at the Nippon Budokan (Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo), the Teikyo University Karate Club won the men's and women's team kata and men's team kumite, achieving a triple crown. The tournament featured four events: men's and women's team kata and men's and women's team kumite. The men's team kata achieved its 16th consecutive victory, the women's team kata its 19th consecutive victory, and the men's team kumite won its first victory in two years. In addition, four members were selected for the Outstanding Player Award.

In the morning, both the men's and women's team kata won the preliminaries with a calm performance, and in the finals they played a safe game and achieved consecutive victories. In the men's team kumite, after experiencing the disappointment of coming in second in the spring team competition, the captain, Daiki Kataoka (4th year Faculty of Medical Technology), and his teammates showed how they had grown through individual competitions, and won the championship with overwhelming momentum.

Regarding this year's triple crown, Masao Kagawa, head coach and instructor of the university's karate club, said, "After the results of the individual matches in the summer, the players who had been emerging were able to achieve results in the team matches as well. We are looking forward to the All Japan Championships in November. Regarding the loss in the first match of the women's kumite, it is important to use the techniques you have practiced in matches, but this time we were unable to do so." Before the match, instructor Kagawa said that he chose players who had been able to practice well because the students who participated in the U21 World Karate Championships held on the same date were absent from this tournament. There is about one month left until the All Japan University Karate Championships in November. We ask for your continued support for the karate club.
