The 38th Nagasaki/Okinawa Academic Conference of the Kyushu Branch of the Japanese Society of Nuclear Medicine Technology was held at the Ryojun Hall of the Nagasaki University School of Medicine Medicine on Saturday, July 6th and Sunday, July 7th, 2024, and Eisuke Hirata (4th year student Faculty of Fukuoka Medical Technology) received the Student Encouragement Award.
Hirata is conducting research in the laboratory of Associate Professor Takagi Akihiro, Department of Department of Radiological Technology Faculty of Fukuoka Medical Technology Teikyo University. At this conference, he gave a presentation titled "Study of Mediastinal ROI for Calculating HM Ratio Using 123I-MIBG" on the possibility of dementia testing. Some dementias are accompanied by pathological conditions in which nerve transmission does not work well. In order to differentiate dementia, a test called myocardial sympathetic nerve scintigraphy is performed, and an evaluation value using the H/M ratio is used. The test needs to be performed twice after administering the drug, but in the research presented by Hirata, it was found possible to estimate the H/M ratio in a single test. It is expected that the omission of the test will shorten the time that patients spend in the hospital and enable more efficient operation of the test, which led to the award.
It is expected that this research will make a significant contribution to the future development of the field of nuclear medicine.
