Itabashi CampusThe Vice Minister of the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare visited our School of Medicine to inspect the spatial surgery assist system, which is the result of Industry-Academia-Government Collaboration

On Wednesday, June 19, 2024, Mr. Kazuhiro Oshima, Administrative Vice Minister of the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, visited Teikyo University Hospital to inspect the Spatial Surgical Assistance System, a result of Industry-Academia-Government Collaboration with Holoeyes Corporation, the University School of Medicine Surgery Chair Hepatobiliary Pancreatic Surgery and various ministries. This visit enabled them to experience first-hand the use of this system in the medical field.

The system was developed by Holoeyes Corporation, represented by Maki Sugimoto of the Faculty of Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery and Okinaga Research Institute Innovation Lab Professor, and uses a spatial computing headset to display 3D images such as CT and MRI in a three-dimensional spatial manner. On the day, Sugimoto Professor introduced the actual clinical use of the system in the operating room, with the University's Chairman and President Yoshihito Okinaga, the University's Executive Director and Deputy President Hiroko Okinaga, and the Faculty of Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery Professor, Dr. Takeyuki Misawa, and others. Dr. Oshima commented, "For the future development of Surgery surgery in Japan, such cutting-edge digital technology, the first of its kind in Japan, is indispensable. Teikyo University will continue to promote the development of medical technology through cooperation between industry, academia, and government.
