Hachioji CampusKendo Club held a Kendo trial class for international students.

On Wednesday, June 19, 2024, a hands-on kendo class was held at Teikyo University Martial Arts Center for approximately 20 international students from Teikyo University's Teikyo Asia Exchange Program (TAEP = Teikyo Asia Exchange Program).
This project was conducted with the cooperation of Kota Nakanishi of Teikyo University Center for Global Education and Teikyo University Faculty of Economics Department of Economics Associate Professor. The international students experienced kendo etiquette, swinging, and kendo practice with kendo protective gear. Kendo Club The students were able to experience the ethics of budo and the fun of kendo as an athletic sport, as there are few opportunities to teach kendo to international students. Detailed explanations were provided in English translation by Nakanishi (Associate Professor) and foreign students who are fluent in Japanese, while using English stickers created by Kendo Club staff. At the beginning, the students seemed a little anxious, but when it came time to put on the protective gear and take the shinai, they looked lively, and with the advice of Kendo Club students, they were swinging the shinai down with all their might.

The Teikyo University Asian Exchange Program (TAEP) at Faculty of Economics for Department of Economics, Department of International Economy and Department of Business Administration aims to develop human resources who will contribute to the development of Japan and Asia. Currently, Teikyo University has concluded agreements with Ho Chi Minh City University of Foreign Languages and Information Technology (Vietnam), Panyapiwat Institute of Management (Thailand), Yangon University of Economics (Myanmar), Jenderal Soedirman University (Indonesia), Pannasastra University of Cambodia (Cambodia), Adamson University (Philippines), and National University of Laos (Laos) universities and is promoting exchange programs such as accepting international students. In addition, several courses are available through the Asia Exchange Program, and all lectures are given in English. Teikyo University will continue to increase opportunities for exchange between international and Japanese students and provide active international exchange on campus.
