Hachioji CampusAssistant Professor Nakaoka received the 25th Ikuo Onaka Family Law Newcomer Encouragement Award

On Thursday, March 21, 2024, the winners of the Onaka Ikuo Family Law Academic Award were announced, with Assistant Professor Nakaoka Jun Faculty of Law Department of Law Teikyo University, winning the 25th Onaka Ikuo Family Law Newcomer Encouragement Award for his paper "The Content Formation of Same-Sex Marriage and the Principle of Equality." This award was established to recognize the achievements of researchers and practitioners, generally under the age of 35, who have published excellent books and papers in the field of family law, and to encourage them for the future.

In addition, on Friday, May 24, 2024, a spectacular award ceremony was held at the Hoso Kaikan (Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo) with the participation of the award recipients and the selection committee. In his speech as the award recipient, Assistant Professor Nakaoka said about his thesis, "I aimed to objectively describe German legal practice, its advantages and disadvantages, critically examine it, and present universal suggestions that are applicable to Japanese law, by referring to the discussions in German law, which has been facing the controversial topic of same-sex marriage before Japan." He also expressed his joy at receiving the award, saying, "I am surprised and happy to receive such a prestigious academic award in the field of family law, and at the same time, I feel a sense of honor. I will continue to devote myself to my research activities so that I can legally express the earnest feelings of sexual minorities who seek stable ties under the law." We look forward to Assistant Professor Nakaoka's continued success in the future.
